For the past three years of my life I have been very passionate about caring for children and teens with special needs. I am a senior in high school, during my sophomore year I began to volunteer at a down syndrome connection weekly. Here I have developed strong relationships with kids and teens who have Down Syndrome through being an assistant teacher. I help set up art projects, dance classes, and informational classes teaching basic life skills. At my high school, Monte Vista, I am an assistant teacher for the severe special day class. Here I work with kids with a variety of disabilities. I focus mostly on speech therapy and math. And by math I mean sorting, folding, and stuff of that nature. I am very passionate about working with children with special needs and hope to continue this in college. My plan for next year is to attend school in the fall and begin my work towards a double major in liberal studies and psychology.
