My grandma was diagnosed w/ early dementia 6 yrs ago. In July of '24 she was in a horrific accident. By the grace of God she pulled through; unfortunately her mind was changed. Her dementia came on instantly after the accident & she was no longer herself. We tried rehabs & memory facilities but l wasn't comfortable with them. I chose to bring her home to family. I quickly learned she was a different grandmother. I was her full-time care, making sure she received PT, OT, meals, exercise, doc appts, etc. After the accident she couldn't live on her own; walking, bathroom, showers, bed alarms, monitoring vitals, food, etc. It was hard, but I enjoyed every second of helping her understand who she was in this new mind. I became best friends w/ a new grandma. She was challenging and I learned a lot from her caretakers and hospice team. I acquired 7 months experience during this difficult, yet rewarding time, but I never left her side & I learned by being hands-on and wearing many hats.

Bailey was the full- Time Caretaker for my Grandmother. She assisted my grandmother with all of her day-to-day needs, including medication management, bathing, feeding, and helping her change clothes—all with incredible patience, dignity, kindness and respect, always attentive to her physical and emotional well-being. I truly cherished the unique fun activities that she encouraged my grandma to Participate in allowing her to maintain the feeling of importance and participation filling her days with joy.
