About Ayden

I am an energetic, fun loving individual with a passion for teaching. I have a background in working with youth 12-24 experiencing homelessness, working with students K-8 in an afterschool care program, and most recently leading a distance learning pod of 3 awesome 4th graders. I have a love for teaching young people and come from a student centered mindset. I am passionate about social justice and enjoy implementing these teachings when possible. I am creative in my teaching styles and enjoy individualizing curriculum on a student by student basis. I have quite a bit of experience working with young folks from all sorts of different backgrounds and walks of life, and enjoy working with folks who may experience more barriers than others (i. e. children/young adults with varying physical and cognitive abilities, behavioral or mental health challenges, queer identified families, etc). We hired Ayden as our pod leader when schools were closed due to Covid. We'd hire him again in a heartbeat. We feel so lucky to have found a great, safe, fun teacher/leader for the kids during the pandemic. In addition to keeping the kids on track for class and homework, ensuring they had exercise daily (biking, skating, ball games, tree climbing, ping pong), and keeping them masked and taking health precautions, Ayden also did amazing science, art, and social awareness projects with them. He helped them create their own campaign posters, make crystals and kinetic motion machines, learn about the layers of the ocean and climate change, develop their own fantasy game based on Greek gods, and much more. He made treasure hunts for them and set up holiday parties. He did equally well with boys and girls (we started with one boy and one girl and added one boy and one girl, 4th graders all).
