I do not have professional elder care history. I did however, care for both of my grandmothers until their deaths. In both cases, I eventually moved in and did this 24/7. One of my grandmother's had Alzheimer's and the other had significant health issues. I also have an adult daughter with disabilities and I was her legal caretaker with training from the state. I know the toll it takes on family, finances, time and energy. It is ok to need a break! I will always treat your family with dignity and compassion. I also will not sit there on my phone and plant them infront of a TV (unless that's what they want!). I will engage with them as much as they are able to or want to: play games, I can read to them, cook with or for them, take them on walks, and the best part - listen to their stories! I have just moved to the area and appreciate the work.
