About Annika

Working with kids: is it always easy? no. But I would choose the chaos over busywork any day of the week! This is the second summer in a row that I've worked at a day camp for kids, and I'll be honest - it's crazy. I have learned to break up fights, mend friendships, plaster bandages onto a scrapes like a pro, tie infinite shoelaces, clean up spills, and make bracelets or bead animals, all while answering question after question. At this point, I'm basically unshakeable. When COVID hit, I was 13 and I was hired to sit for a 10 mo. baby after her daycare closed down. I fell in love with how rewarding it is to work with kids and babies, so I never stopped... that baby is now 7 years old and I still know her! One of my most useful skills when it comes to working with kids is my ability to listen, and the importance I give their words. I won't let anyone get interrupted, I always make sure everyone feels heard! I have some experience with children on the autistic spectrum and with ADHD.
