My first childcare experiences occurred on the home front. As sister to 5 younger siblings, I cannot pinpoint a particular time at which I began caring for children. I transitioned from being mom's special helper and a playmate to giving stroller rides, changing diapers, and keeping an eye on younger siblings while my mom was out. In high school, I babysat, and continued to gain experience with kids through volunteer work at my church. My first official care-giving position was for a child with the neurological disorder Rett syndrome. As her caretaker, I was responsible for administering medication and meals through a feeding tube and assisting with bathing, dressing, body braces, and breathing treatments. I also have 8 yrs. experience with traditional nanny positions where I have assisted with housekeeping, laundry, errands, meal prep, transportation, as well as providing homework help, planning activities and play dates etc.
