When Anne started caring for my dad, who has dementia, was very opposed to having a caregiver. At the time he had a catheter and I was concerned he wouldn't let her empty the leg bag before bedtime. On the very first day she made a deal with him. If he would let her empty the bag she would massage his calves. It worked! In the following days, they enjoyed music together while she prepared his dinner. They shared a few laughs watching TV programs. She helped out alot around the house by doing laundry, washing dishes and just keeping everything neat and organized. Everything you would look for in a caregiver! There was only one negative in this new friendship. My dad has a stubborn streak and just could not allow himself to accept letting someone care for him on a daily basis. We eventually had to give in to what he wanted. Even when he was being difficult Anne was very professional and took the right steps to try and diffuse the situation. We'll miss her! Laurie B.
