Experience: 8 yrs
My passion is helping others in any way possible. I am currently pursuing a nursing career at community college. For over eight years I have provided companionship, activities of daily living and light meal preparation for the elderly.
Andrea Morris was employed full time by my family as a a home health aide/attendant for my 88 year old father for 3 1/2 years ending in October 2014. We were very lucky that Andrea had completed 2+ years of college and had been certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse which meant she brought to the position technical nursing skills, medical knowledge, and years of experience in healthcare. Andrea's innate abilities and personality are what allow her to translate her skills and knowledge so effectively into practice. Her intelligence, initiative, creativity, patience, attentiveness, and humor made her the best front line employee, not only to keep him engaged in activities and all ADLs, but also in communicating with other medical care and service providers of his at his assisted living facility. She knew him well, as she was with him eight hours a day five or more days a week, and if she had any concern about his health, she let the appropriate people know as well as my sister and me, and continued to follow up. More than once she was the one to suggest something such as dehydration (he was) which the nurses hadn't caught or a UTI (he had) the nurses and doctor had missed. She was my father's greatest advocate and I felt that she stood in for me in my place and I had complete trust in her. Most importantly, Andrea's work with my father, her unique brand of care-giving served to keep him in the best of health, physically, mentally, and emotionally. My dad had heart disease for decades including atrial fibrillation and aortic valve replacement at 82 y/o, diabetes requiring him to use a walker and early-mid stage Alzheimer's. Due to Andrea's hard work, determination, and genuine respect and caring, my dad maintained an excellent quality of life until he died two weeks shy of turning 92. If they weren't downstairs at musical concerts, bowling, doing crosswords, playing Bunco or balloon toss, when he wanted to stay in his apartment, Andrea usually got him to play Scrabble, Checkers, or do one of his many puzzles. My father adored Andrea and trusted her and came to completely rely on her. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Andrea for any employment she seeks in the healthcare field. She is professional, responsible and reliable and also possesses the qualities of warmth and caring as well as a bright and positive nature. Any setting providing any type or level of healthcare would find her to be a great asset.
