I helped to take care of my grandmother who had dementia for four months until her death in October, and am actively caring for my great aunt who also has dementia. With my grandmother I made sure she took her medication round the clock, I took blood pressure, kept track of meals, worked with her on occupational therapy and sat with her. When she got worse, I was there for medications, diaper changes, dressing changes, changing her, cleaning her, and we changed her bedding. With my great aunt, her dementia isn't quite as advanced, but I make sure she takes her medication, make her meals, clean, and do basic tasks around the house. I keep track of her appointments with the calendar in my phone as well as on the wall & I answer her house phone so she doesn't get trapped in phone calls that she doesn't understand. I also do occupational therapy with her as well through a kindergarten workbook, and physical therapy by walking around the block when we walk my dogs.
