Experience: 1 yr
Hi! I'm Amarachi, a junior attending NYU studying Global Public Health and Sociology on the Pre- Law track. I began caring for kids in my family and Sunday school at 12 years old and professionally at 17 years old as a teacher at my local daycare. Furthermore, I have taken a Childhood Development class with York College where I learned about the various stages of childhood from infantry to adolescence. I don't mind small household keeping, food preparation, and school projects. I am CPR/First Aid Certified. I'd describe my personality as kind, outgoing, understanding, and patient. In my spare time, I love to play tennis, read, thrift, and watch 90's/early 2000's TV shows & movies. I communicate with parents with their preferred method whether via: call, text, email or an app. I'm very comfortable enforcing household rules. Feel free to message me for additional info! :)
Amarachi watched my 2 boys for 3 months. The good: Amarachi is personable, responsible, communicative, and always shows up on time. I was never worried about my kids' safety with her. That said, it emerged that she does not currently have the skills needed to deal with typical, age-appropriate behavior issues. After having given her 2 weeks' notice due to scheduling issues, she quit effective immediately with just over a week of that notice still to go, the day after a behavior issue with my 6-year-old. I would understand if the behavior issues were severe, constant, and/or the parents were not taking them seriously. But there were only 3 incidents over the course of 3 months, all of them were not ok but also within the realm of normal behavior for the child's age, she only told me about the 1st and the 3rd incidents (I found out about the 2nd the day she quit), and after each of the 2 incidents that she DID tell me about, I both fully apologized to her and addressed the matters very seriously with my son. She proactively acknowledged during our final conversation that she knows children can have difficulty expressing their emotions appropriately (each incident occurred at a time when my son was frustrated or angry with her), and yet, she also seemed to believe that these not-okay-but-age-appropriate behaviors of my son were beyond the pale for a child's behavior. We have had 6 babysitters over the years, and never once has any other babysitter expressed that they felt my son's behavior was atypically bad (so it's not just my bias as a mother blinding me). He's 6, so yes, he doesn't always do the right thing. But all in all he's a good kid who literally never gets in trouble at school, so the fact that Amarachi was unable to handle these incidents and could not even finish out her final week of work due to them tells me that she would be better suited to a job that does not involve children, absent some significant further training regarding age-appropriate behavior expectations and how to handle behavior concerns.
