I started babysitting when I was about 11 or 12. The kids were my neighbors and were about 4 and 6, I believe. We mostly watched movies and played games. I would help them with their homework and study for tests. The older kids' spelling tests went from getting F's to getting A's. A few years later, I started watching a little girl with Cerebral Palsy. I helped her learn how to walk up the stairs on her own, how to hold a dinner utensil on her own and basically how to be more independent. We went on walks and played on the swings. She loved spending time with me. A couple years later, I started watching a couple of boys up the street after school, the oldest one was in about 4th grade. They mostly did what they wanted, I was just there to cook for them and make sure they didn't burn down the house. I have yet to be complained about that I know of, in fact, the kids tend to tell me I am the best babysitter they ever had. I have taught in a class setting at daycares for over a decade.
Amanda and I worked together for almost an entire year in a center - she was the head teacher in the room with me and it was a great experience. When Amanda started, she hadn't ever been a lead teacher before and it was great to work with her and see how much she learned and grew as a teacher throughout that year. She is incredibly creative and always has numerous ideas on how to create fun projects to do with the kids. She is also a music lover, which often lead to the kids in our room dancing and singing along to Disney songs throughout the day. Yet, there are so many times that I would see her drop everything to comfort a child, even if we didn't know why they were sad, and she seems to bond especially well with each one that she comes across. Amanda is a wonderful person to work with and I can't think of anyone else who made working together any easier.
