I worked as a direct support professional for almost 12 years, and I stayed in the field so long because of how rewarding it can be. While employed at a former agency, I received an employee award for fulfilling the lifelong dream of one of my individuals. At the last agency I was employed at, I received employee of the month less than a year into my employment there. I am very patient, caring, and kind. I understand the communication barrier that often comes with working with individuals with developmental disabilities. I am currently in graduate school for early childhood and early childhood special education.
