As a backup caregiver, my main responsibility was to step in when the primary caregiver wasn't available. This meant I had to quickly adapt to the family's routine, follow any specific instructions left for me, and make sure the child felt comfortable and safe in my care. My duties included preparing meals and snacks, keeping the child engaged with age-appropriate activities, helping with homework if needed, handling nap or bedtime routines, and maintaining a clean and organized space. I also made sure to communicate clearly with the parents, giving them updates on how the day went. In one role, I supported a child who had recently lost his mother, so part of my job was offering emotional support and being a calm, consistent presence.
