I started working with special needs children as a young teenager. It started when I began working for a 17-year-old girl with an extremely rare condition called Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, which causes autism. The girl cannot speak and she needs assistance with just about everything she does. To most people, working with a special needs child can be rather frustrating, but I find it fulfilling. Working with her was an amazing experience and through it, I was able to build a friendship with her just like with anyone else.
