Although I don't currently have paid experience working with children and adults with disabilities, I have around 14 years of experience. My little sister has a rare developmental disability called angelman syndrome, and I have assisted in her care her entire life. This includes assistance in mobility, feeding, ADL's, and experience working with communication devices. But most importantly, this includes connection, a deep level of understanding, and the ability to communicate in a variety of ways that may not include verbal speech. My sister is my best friend, and has taught me a lot throughout the years that I would love to share with others. I also connect on a deeper level with neurodivergent people as I am neurodivergent myself! I am diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and can deeply understand and empathize with other neurodivergent people. I have also been studying American Sign Language for the past two years, and I'm at a conversational level!
