Experience: 6 yrs
Hi! My name is Addyson, I'm 23 years old and have been working in childcare for the past 6 years. I have experience caring for children ranging from infants to grade school age, and I truly love being a positive, dependable presence in their lives. I enjoy creating a fun, safe, and nurturing environment where kids can learn and grow.
Addyson had a great interview - it seemed as though our needs aligned. She expressed she was passionate about taking care of children, was looking for a long-term position, and had great examples of two other nanny experiences. We agreed to do a trial day, which in turn would help us out with our childcare needs that week, confirmed the start time, and I shared my address with her. The evening before, I received a message from her asking if I would be willing to switch the trial day, as her cousin needed help with her littles because she had to work. I responded that the day we agreed on was indeed the day we needed help and preferred. She asked how long she should expect to be at our house, since she might be able to help her cousin in the afternoon. I responded that I had realized we hadn't discussed how long she would be at the house that day, and that we preferred 4pm. For context, I work from home and had calls scheduled throughout the day, so coverage was needed until then. She never responded, so I assumed she was fine with that. The next morning, she never showed up at the house, never called, and didn't respond to my text message or phone call. The lack of maturity and response was disappointing. Sadly, this experience is more chronic in this industry than I had realized. This is the next in a long line of nannies to flake out and not show up or respond, and unfortunately, it has a much larger ripple effect than these people realize. Working families whose jobs hang in the balance based on childcare rely on responsible and emotionally mature childcare workers. We make the choice to go the route of an in-home nanny instead of a daycare because we love to be around our children (we'll never get this time back while they are this little), but cannot afford to have one parent be stay-at-home. Addyson may have had her reasons, such as taking care of her cousin's children over a stranger's, but communication and a response sooner rather than later would have allowed us to pivot and make additional calls for coverage. I hope she finds something that works for her, but I cannot express my disappointment strongly enough.
