I have had multiple experiences caring for people with special needs. In high school, I was part of the Best Buddies Program and was paired with a student with Down Syndrome. During this program, we did fun, social activities together. In college, I was a social mentor in the Crossing Points program. This program helps college-aged students with disabilities become independent by providing help in the areas of socialization, daily living, and employment. My mentee had autism, although I also spent time with other students in the class who had other disabilities. I have also completed a nursing clinical experience at Eagle's Wings, a program similar to Crossing Points where adults are coached on independent living skills.
