Highly passionate, above-and-beyond educator with a focus on World Literature, Film Analysis, 1:1 Special Education Direct Instruction, and 10 years experience in public schools. Dedicated team player with a keen ability to relate to students and present content in a logical, relevant manner. Number of ways that I engage the reluctant reader or writer in my classroom. One way I engage the reluctant reader is to allow the student to incorporate their own interests into the reading required for the class. A reading strategy that I have used for several years now is Independent Reading Day. Once a week, I dedicate a specific block of time to students reading an independent reading book of their choice. This practice gets students reading on a regular basis and it allows the student to read topics that they are deeply interested in.
