I'm a Florida native who recently moved to Yakima, WA with my husband. My past volunteer and personal experience in caring for and spending time with the elderly are no doubt what planted the seed for my passion for helping seniors in need. That passion led me to venture away from my advertising career and become a self-employed Senior Companion while spending the past year in Los Angeles while my husband trained at UCLA.
I worked for 3 wonderful families who entrusted me with helping them care for their elderly parents. I visited them on a routine basis, helped them maintain groceries, developed meal plans and cooked healthy meals to stock their fridges so they were sure to eat and maintain the nutrition they need. I also took care of filling and checking pill packs and handled transportation and companion needs for things like doctor and vet appointments, and even meditation and dance classes. I helped keep their homes tidy and stocked, and provided thorough and timely communication with their family members, keeping them informed of the details of my time spent with their loved one and how they are doing. I pride myself in giving the families peace of mind! I really enjoy helping those in their golden years with keeping a healthy, happy home for themselves so they can maintain a sense of independence.
Prior to my Senior Companion work in LA, I was a Visiting Volunteer for a nonprofit organization for the elderly for 3 years in Chicago. I was also a volunteer at nursing homes for many years throughout my teens and 20's where I gained experience in elder care, as well as the time I spent caring for my grandmother over the 7 years she lived with Alzheimer's.
Please let me know if you'd like to learn more about me. I'm happy to provide references from my past clients and families. Currently, I looking for a senior to visit and help up to 2 days a week and can also be available as a back-up caregiver.
