Jt's Music Lessons (Guitar, Song Writing)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    San Diego, CA

Years of Experience: 11 Location Options: In Home, In Webcam Travel Radius: 10 Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Song Writing Lessons Overview: I started teaching myself guitar 11 years ago, around the same time I began educating myself on science and technology, my other main interests. I now split nearly all of my time between work in artificial intelligence and writing/recording music. Formal Education: I studied business in college and have no formal education in music, a decision I am glad I made. I do believe personal exploration is the best way to learn, though supplemented by lessons can be extremely beneficial or necessary for some people depending on preference and style. I learned theory from books, tips from friends, and deeply studied video of my favorite musicians. Though dependent on what someone wants out of playing music, in general I believe freely following curiosity and pleasure when learning leads to the best outcomes, and this can certainly mean having someone to answer your questions and teach you what you find to be exciting. Private Education: I am mostly self taught (books and videos), with interspersed lessons and tips from more experienced musicians. I always had a unique taste and vision for my music and view music as a highly creative (as opposed to mechanical/rote) process so I preferred to teach myself as much as possible so I could engage creativity as much as possible instead of a structured program. I keep this in mind when I teach others to make sure to understand what they want out of music and to keep it as personalized and fun as possible. Performing Experience: I have played and jammed with multiple musicians and bands in town. My primary focus up to this point has been developing my skills on the guitar and songwriting. Experience Teaching: I've taught multiple people to play guitar over the past 5 years, both from the ground up and people who already have some experience playing.
