I apologize in advance to any of the teachers at Sunflower that truly care about children. If you do, there is a huge shortage of daycare teachers in the metro; you will have no trouble finding a job.

I really wanted to like Sunflower. My wife and I tried to ignore all the warning signs from the first day our 5 month old daughter started coming here August 2017. We chose this place after 1 tour because it was Montessori and we really like the Montessori philosophy; particularly "Follow the Child" and "Structure & Routine". I will keep names out of it but the person who toured us seemed very sweet and caring, but she only cared about getting to sign the contract and to pay them.

Warning signs:

1) They had space for an infant starting in a few weeks. NO DAYCARE IN Denver Metro has space unless there are issues with the center. Call around, 12 month waiting lists everywhere.

2) The directors are never here; except around the first of the month when it's time to collect the money. Or when they are trying to find new students. And they still leave early! We have friends that own day cares, they are the first ones there and the last ones to leave (should've drove across town to go to theirs).

3) On our 5 month old daughters first day, the lead teacher didn't even welcome our daughter. She was too busy organizing stuff in the closet while my wife held our daughter child to get her comfortable

4) They will tell you they will follow your child's schedule. But what they really mean is they will follow the schedule if its convenient.

5) One of the teachers kid is in the class. Two issues with this. (A) this child was always being held by all the teachers while the other infants were laying on boppies or the floor by themselves (yes, sometimes screaming but not that often or we would've removed our daughter immediately) and (B) this child had bronchitis for 3 days before he was removed from class. They have a doctors note, but it was after they had no choice but to remove the child because he was coughing so badly.

6) Sign language? They taught NOTHING

*** There are so many more but I think you get the point.

If your child currently goes to this school. Drop in sometime unannounced when they are not expecting you. Try to park away from the windows though as they look out the windows to see which parents are coming so they can hold your child. When we started to pick her up earlier than normal and they weren't expecting us, our 6 month old was ALWAYS in a boppy by HERSELF! She would be in a boppy BY HERSELF feeding herself because they didn't want to hold her while she ate, too much work! (Again, apologies to the teachers that actually cared).

With over 20 years experience, opening this school has been the fulfillment of a dream. Cimarron has dedicated her life to living the Montessori philosophy the way it is meant to be. You won't find a better or more caring teacher for your child.

This school is wonderful! The classroom environments are beautiful and the staff is very caring and nurturing. They follow the Montessori philosophy of 'following the child' and you can tell they are really passionate about what they do and the children they care for.
