Yesterday was my first day and my last! The ratio for the age group I had is 1 teacher to 10 students. (I asked the lead teacher to be sure). With 2 teachers we had 25 students. They sent someone in the classroom to give the lead teacher her lunch (which happened to be during nap time). One student left so that made it 24 students with 2 teachers. About 20 minutes after the breaker came in she left because "they're all laying down". HA! Do you know how long that lasted! Only 3 of them were sleep when she left! 3! I had a student literally attack another student. I had a student running around jumping on the other students while they attempted to rest. I had a student that was going in and out of the restrooms slamming the doors. Mind you, this is all around the same time. So it didn't matter what child I went to, another one acted up. There was no room for 24 mats so the students were basically laying on top of each other. I didn't know these babies names. I didn't know where emergency info was. Heck I didn't even know how to contact the front office in case of an emergency. I was kicked in the face, bitten and spit on NUMEROUS times. I sincerely applaud the teacher I was with because she has some VERY challenging children! They run from you, kick you, bite you, hit you. You name it, these children do it. Now again it was my first day so I don't know how management is. But if today was a preview, they need serious changes! I hope they can get the staffing they need so these classes aren't overcrowded! Not only is it challenging for the teachers, it's truly a safety concern for the children. They have ratios for a reason!
