My wife and I are expecting our first child in late August. With the end of maternity leave, we will have a need for nanny care starting approximately December 2014 to January 2015. My wife and I both work full-time, so our yet to be determined nanny would be working Monday-Friday from 7 am until around 6 pm. Both of us have jobs that involve occasional short days and longs days, so the hours will fluctuate a bit.

Like many other people that work full time jobs, we cannot leave work to pull a child from daycare every time she gets a cold. That's where the nanny comes in for us. Hopefully, we can find another family that is willing to have an ill child in the house. As many of you undoubtedly know, quality and experienced nannies are not cheap. Additionally, we would like to do everything above the table regarding taxes, which does add significant expense. It seems as though the best nannies would hope to build credit through real employment and have all of the benefits associated with legal tax filing (social security, unemployment, disability etc). For our peace of mind this is a must. So we are left with a pretty hefty expense. It would be great to chop that in half.

It does seem that we could find an arrangement that would financially benefit both the families and the nanny. Finding the right family will be as important as getting the ideal nanny. In order for this to work, proximity to the south west durham / southpoint area is likely pretty important, we would have to coordinate our vacation schedules in order for the nanny to take time off, and the timeframe must reasonably fit. Our infant will be very young at the time of the start of the nanny share, so we hope to have a small group (ie you have one child, maybe two).

We hope to find a family that will become close friends and help us hire a great nanny. The nanny will be well paid and feel appreciated. For what it's worth, we think that we are pretty cool and fun-loving people.
