First time hiring a housecleaner
By Rina J. on Thu Apr 9, 2015 at 11:45 AM EDT
Very disappointed in my first experience. I'm wondering if there are good housekeepers on here. I should have went with my gut when they only had 1 reference but most people do not have references at all. I basically paid someone $80 to do my floors and bathroom. Although we discussed dusting, kitchen, bedrooms etc. She didn't even wipe down a single surface in my home. Don't get me wrong she was a very nice lady but I wont hire her again. Is there a better way to look for a housekeeper? Has anyone had any luck? I posted a new job today for a "thorough spring cleaner". I don't want to commit to anyone until after I see their work first.

I would provide a nice check list for the next person, so that they know what you expect from them from the very beginning, if they can't do something they should explain that you to right away...that way there is no confusion as to task at hand and what they are suppose to provide as far as your individual service requirements. But you are right, it is frustrating at times, we had a girl schedule to come out to our house only 5-10 miles away from her home and decided at last minute to cancel on us and not entertain cleaning at all. I mean we are offering a good dependable person a lot of money to come out on a regular basis to help us out. I guess she didn't need the money.
