5 Ways Mom Entrepreneurs Can Combat Isolation and Frustration
By Michelle G. on Mon Jan 30, 2012 at 12:19 PM EST
How do mom entrepreneurs combat feelings of isolation and frustration? Often mom entrepreneurs are feel isolated because they may be the only one that is in business for themselves out of their friends and family, they are new to an area or the nature of their business is home-based so their is little time for connecting to other women in business. This can be hard emotionally but can also have an impact on your business! Networking is critical to a business yet many of the networking groups have strict rules about attending their functions and meeting in order to participate. This poses a unique challenge for mom entrepreneurs, particularly those with young children. Getting to a mandatory 2 meetings a week can be hard to navigate since the children and their health can be so very unpredictable. The other issue that moms in business face is feeling pressured by our family and friends to "settle" for a secure job, especially if the household income depends on it or if you have not had a successful business before. What can you do to combat these feelings, move past them to create and run a successful business as a mom?

1. First keep in mind that you are a MOM first and the biggest reason that your are home is to have the flexibility you want and need with your children.

2. Know that although friends and family care they need what's best for themselves. The people closest to you need you to supply them with what they are used to and if your changing this creates tension. So although they care, they don't offer up the best advice.

3. Find a group of other moms like Mom Entrepreneurs SA or Mom Entrepreneurs on Care.com. Forming a relationship with other mom that understand your challenges can be just what you need. Our group is just starting, but we are looking to form our own supportive network to address the key issues that we face!

4. Find a coach! If you have not ever had a coach then really consider getting one. I have one and I can honestly say finding the right coach was just what I needed to define clear direction not only for my business but for my family. Don't feel as if it's a luxury you can't afford, actually it cost me thousands of dollars more than if I had found the RIGHT coach to begin with, instead of making mistakes and wasting time! There is a coach in the Mom Entrepreneurs SA so that's a great starting point.

5. Don't forget about self-development! I know as a busy mom I don't always have time to read with book in hand, so Audible has done the trick for me! I can download books on my phone, iPad, tablet or computer and LISTEN. Most books are in this platform, so lots of choices!

If you need to belong to a group join us here and on meetup.com , and find me on twitter @MsHoverfly, or email me at Michelle@Mshoverfly.com I would be happy to help!
