About the job

The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general and specified supervision and management of a group of 4 to 18 children between the ages of six weeks and ten years. The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a childcare provider for young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development and must be able to meet the requirements in the Texas Minimum Standards. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to children and adults. Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following: Plan, supervise, and implement the program for childcare in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Discovery Learning Center and the Texas Minimum Standards Teaching within the guidelines of the provided ABEKA curriculum every day before venturing off into other activities Follow posted schedule Gear the program to the needs of individual children, with concern for their interests, challenges, special talents, and individual styles and paces of learning Being proficient in actively teaching meaning, getting eye level with the children and playing, dancing, positively interacting, and problem solving with each child Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background Treat children with dignity and respect Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of the group Promote family-style eating with the children by serving then sitting with them at their tables and reflecting on the day and modeling and redirecting the children what is appropriate at the table Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the childcare center Assume an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities Follow posted cleaning instructions Implement methods for effectively utilizing the services of childcare assistants Attend all staff meetings, recommended training programs, and be responsible for in-service staff training as requested Attend meeting/conferences acquiring a minimum of 30 clock hours each year Assist in on-going evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental level of each child Assist director as requested Each Discovery Learning Center employee's primary focus is the happiness and wellbeing of our students. Teachers must come to DLC with a basic knowledge of early childhood development. Teachers will be informed of their specific responsibility and given their class assignments by the director upon hire.
