As pets, small mammals cover a wide range of the creature spectrum. Many people prefer small mammals such as mice, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs as pets because they are smaller and can live in contained spaces. But, don't be fooled--small mammals can have big personalities and this is the draw for many people who have become so fond of them. Aside from their furry cuteness, small mammals have such interesting habits to watch (as shown by the now traditional classroom hamsters or guinea pigs). They are extremely social and friendly as a rule, though must be handled with care as they can be delicate.
