Our client in Pittsford is seeking a tutor for a 10th-grade male student with learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will provide pre-teaching, organization coaching, and support with assignments for the student. The tutor must communicate directly with teachers at the student's school to ensure homework folders are complete and assignments are properly recorded. The student is described as neurodivergent, highly intelligent, and resourceful, so a patient yet kind and firm approach is critical to this role. The job will begin as soon as possible and will last for the duration of the 2024-2025 school year, with training from the student's current tutor for a successful handoff. Responsibilities: - Provide pre-teaching and organization coaching tailored to the student's learning needs - Reach out to teachers before significant assignments or quizzes to collaborate on supporting the student effectively - Conduct tutoring sessions outside of the home, preferably at the Pittsford Community Library from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday - Assist the student with homework, projects, test preparation, and other academic tasks - Teach study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions - Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment for the student Requirements: - Minimum of two years' experience as a tutor or educator, preferably with experience working with students with learning disabilities - Certified teacher with a Master's Degree highly preferred - Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and coordinate support for the student - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Patient and personable approach to teaching and learning. Must know how to strike the balance between kind and firm - Flexible availability to accommodate the student's schedule - Reliable transportation to travel to the tutoring location - Understanding of the confidential nature of working with students in a private setting
