I am patient, organised, pro-active and conscientious in my role.
| As a foster carer I have cared for children with varying degrees of complex needs. The last two children were greatly affected by their conditions. I met and cared for a newborn in hospital until he was able to join my family at home. Whilst on SCU I realised he was blind. He came home with severe developmental delay. bi-lateral brain damage and severe visual impairment needing a lot of medication. I cared for him until adoption in 2016. Since then I have a toddler with pre-diagnosis of Autism who suffers very high levels of Sensory Processing Disorder. My experience is varied on a wide scale. Previously I worked as a nanny in central London doing various jobs for 11 years before I had my daughter in 2002.

I have been working with children with special needs, those with autism in particular, for the past ten years. I work in a primary school (Mulberry Primary School) specifically designed to care for autistic children, however I also have experience working in a mainstream school setting on a one to one basis with children who have special needs. I especially enjoy working one to one with children as it allows me to build a relationship of trust with the child, whereby the child feels comfortable around me and I am able to learn which care techniques are best suited to them. I also enjoy working in integrated groups with the children as this allows me to conduct activities to help their development and social integration. I am experienced in developing various methods to help the children cope, such as the use of visual aids. The main reason as to why I am passionate about my work is that I get to meet bright, intelligent children and help their development, trying to make their lives as fulfilled as possible.

Psychology graduate SEN carer
| I have a solid academic background in Psychology, rewarded with an Upper Second Honours degree, coupled with practical experience gained through internships and full time positions. I completed my first internship Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Hospital. There, I worked in the female emergency acute psychosis wing, gaining insights into the special needs and delicacies required to work with acute psychotic patients. Building on this foundation, my internship at Algim Special Education and Rehabilitation Centre allowed me to work with autistic children aged 3 to 6, employing the VB-Mapp and ABA approach. This exposure not only deepened my understanding of neurodiversity but also paved the way for my role at Beyond Autism Secondary School. Here, I provided one-on-one support to SEN pupils aged 12 to 16. I’ve also worked as an English Language Teacher teaching English to students aged 12-40. I’m currently on the path to becoming a therapist through enrollment in Psychodynamics Masters Programmes. These part-time courses, scheduled for weekends and evenings, will not interfere with my commitment to a full-time position.

Hi, My name is Poppy Binns. I am warm, caring and have experience in this sort of role.
| I have worked in a school working with SEN, SEMH and challenging behaviour children. This ranged from age 4-10. I would work 1:1 with them in class, to manage their behaviour and help them academically. I also ran interventions; in social, academic, or emotional aspects. I also learnt how to speak basic Makaton. I have babysat children for 6 years, with dyslexia and slow processing. I have tutored them and helped them with their homework. As well, I take them out for days, do activities with them in the evening, such as baking or games. I have recently started babysitting for a girl who has autism (PAD type). I volunteered in an orphanage in Ghana, working with those with social and emotional issues, as well as physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy. I volunteered with children in Birmingham to provide respite care for them over the summer holidays. They were all referred to us from social services, thus, all living a difficult homelife. To add to their lives, many also had ADHD, as well as other mental and learning difficulties. I would provide them with unconditional support and love and try to make sure they were having the best fun possible.
