We are looking for a kind, reliable and experienced housekeeper/carer to help our father, who lives independently in his own home in SW1, Central London.
Dad is an elderly gentleman who is now experiencing memory difficulties/Alzheimer’s. He has always been very independent, but would now benefit enormously from having a familiar, friendly person around him on a regular basis to enable him to continue living independently.
We are looking for someone who can become a trusted and reassuring presence in his life, helping with practical things around the home while also providing companionship and gentle support with day-to-day life.
The role
Initially, we are looking for approximately 15 hours per week, spread over several days. However, we expect the role to gradually become more substantial, so there is the potential for a significant number of regular hours for the right person.
The role would be a mixture of:
* Light housekeeping and keeping the flat tidy
* Laundry, ironing and changing the bed
* Preparing simple meals/snacks and helping ensure Dad eats and drinks regularly
Helping with getting dressed, putting on shoes etc.
* Grocery shopping and occasional errands
* Sitting with Dad, chatting and providing companionship
* Helping him stay organised with everyday tasks
* Going out for a walk or run an errand when appropriate
* Keeping an eye on how he is doing day-to-day
* Communicating with the family if you notice anything that concerns you
About the person
The most important thing to us is finding someone who is warm, patient, trustworthy and genuinely enjoys spending time with older people. Experience with dementia or Alzheimer’s would be highly desirable.
Rate: £15-25 per hour depending on experience.

I’m looking for a kind, reliable and experienced person to provide some additional support for my 94-year-old uncle at home, and to give me some regular help as his main family carer.
My uncle is an older gentleman who wishes to remain living in his own home. Following a recent hospital stay, he now needs a little more support with day-to-day life.
The role may include:
• Companionship and keeping him company
• Helping him move safely around the home
• Preparing a drink or simple meal
• Light household help and tidying
• Sitting with him while I go to the gym, run errands or have some time out
• Personal care, including help with washing/bathing if required
• Generally being an extra pair of capable and caring hands
At present I'm looking for a few to several hours per week, potentially including some shorter visits of around an hour. There may be scope for the hours to increase depending on how things develop.
Experience supporting older people is strongly preferred. You should be patient, dependable, comfortable with personal care and genuinely enjoy spending time with older people.
An enhanced DBS check, references and relevant care experience would be ideal.
My uncle would particularly welcome a mature/retired female carer, although finding the right person is most important.

This is a private family arrangement rather than an agency position. We are hoping to find someone local who could become a familiar and trusted presence rather than simply providing occasional cover.
