Autism Care Bexley

A few months ago I started working as a teaching assistant for children with additional needs in a secondary school nurture department, and discovered a love for helping young people especially embrace life despite the disadvantages that May have been thrown their way. In this position I provided support for a student with Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting both physical and mental development. She required support with toileting, walking and various other physical activities, and I also assisted her general learning by preparing appropriate activities for her stage of development. She also experienced short seizures. When she was not in school, or I was requested elsewhere by my oversight, I also assisted with other students in the class, including students with autism, behavioural challenges and a few students with no specific diagnosis. In addition, I have worked in general childcare (both paid and voluntary) for over 5 years, and in that capacity have also occasionally supported other children with autism, Down Syndrome and ADHD. I'm currently looking for temporary positions over the next few weeks until returning to my school position, at which time I will be interested in work outside of school hours.

| I have over 15 year experience in care with different client group from elderly to special needs which includes learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, substance misuse, mental health issues, I'm a driver with full clean UK drivers licence.

| In my role as PCA I act as an enabler for a person who lives with learning disabilities and autism. Guiding him to become more independent in all aspect of his life. In the nearly seven years I have worked with him we have achieved such a progress preparing his own food, dressing himself, tiding his room, looking after his personal care. I am his fellow going out and about integrating him in his community and enjoying with him art galleries, cinemas, theatres, museums, and city tours.

| I have worked in supported living homes for those with autism and profound learning disabilities. I have all relevant training and working towards my NVQ level 3 in adult care.

| I currently work at an alternative provision with a wide range of SEN and behaviour students working to reintegrate them to mainstream schools. I have previously worked with a 5 year old child with non verbal autism, a verbal autistic child with ADHD and ODD, and with children with Down's Syndrome. I am an active young woman, I love to help children progress and learn about the world as well as with more academic subjects through play and activity. I can help with supporting home therapy and introducing interventions at home to help your child flourish and to ease your mind. I have lots of experience in increasing a child's communication through core boards, basic sign and visuals. I own a business creating resources to help young people with SEN to communicate and access learning and will bring these skills to any job I do.

| I am an articulate and easy to get along young person. I have exceptional communication skills that includes having a passion to help, listen and explain concerns with ease especially with regards to vulnerable people. For the past 5 years I have been developing my skills by working with a variety of autistic people along the autism spectrum, this has made me astute to all manor of situations that mean I must react quickly and in a safe manor for both myself, the general public but most importantly my client.

| I have been working as a qualified nurse at hospital for over 22years. I now reduce it to part time and use my spare time for myself. My training was at university for 4 years. I was trained in mental health, special needs, child and adult nursing.. we did a bit of practical work experience on all the various types of nursing. I do understand the challenges faced by people with special needs such as autism and developmental delays. I empathise with them and allow them adequate time to communicate and express themselves.I am aware of their sensory and emotional regulation needs.

| You've got a lot of experience with kids with SEN and autism, and you're working as a TA in a special needs school for kids aged 11-16. You're patient, understanding, cheerful, playful, good at following instructions, and you're great at building relationships with kids. You can also read body language. You've also been a support worker in a residential home for autistic adults.
