Carer/personal assistant required (no personal care element)

by Tracey • Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay
I’m looking for a carer to provide support for my son while I work from home. He will need supervision and prompting while he completes his online learning. He would also benefit from some support to get out and about and do exercise. He has many diagnoses including complex mental health issues, Autism with PDA profile and ADHD. Responsibilities will include prompting, redirection, reminders, supporting impulse control and helping him with decision making and emotional regulation. The right applicant will also be able to support his emotional development by providing new opportunities to get out and about in the community while reflecting on experiences. Ideally, I’m looking for someone who can spare 2 hours per day, 4 days per week: Monday to Friday 1pm to 3pm. These hours may be negotiable for the right person and there will be a slow start transition period of 1-2 months so flexibility and the ability to make a long term commitment is desirable. Applicants must have experience of working with complex mental health issues. Experience of supporting people who have PDA is desirable. Experience of learning support and an interest in computing or maths also desirable (but not essential) as the role will involve sitting beside him, keeping him on task with reminders and providing emotional/behavioural support while he completes online qualifications in his chosen specialist subjects.

We are looking for someone very special to care for our lovable ten-year-old special needs son when he is not in school, as a permanent position. Our son is autistic, has ADHD, verbal dyspraxia and delayed learning. Although he is quite significantly challenged with his communication and social skills, he is a fun loving, very affectionate boy who is always on the go. His favorite activities are playing with his city skyline models, babies, lego, watching feature length animated movies and going for long walks in the fresh air. Cade is a big boy for his age, and can be physically challenging, so his carer needs to be fit and active to keep up with him and deal with his emotional breakdowns and tendency to lash out, self-harm or bolt off. Cade also cannot be left on his own at any time as he has no concept of danger. Cade attends a special needs class of a local school on Monday - Friday from 9am – 3pm. As such, we need help at the house from 7.15 am – 8.45am to help get him dressed, fed and ready for his school pick up. We also need you back at the house at 3.15pm for his drop off from school at 3.30pm and to be with him till 6.45pm when we finish work. When not traveling for work we often work from home. A regular school week will be 25hrs work. Optional additional weekend working, along with another carer, will be on offer in order to help support for our son on planned outings. We will provide therapy guidelines to assist you with your daily activities with him such as playtime, trips outdoors, dinner time, shower/bath and to get him ready for school/bed. With our son's autism these everyday tasks can be a lot more challenging than with ‘neurotypical’ children so we need his carer to be physically fit and to have a lot of patience. We are also very hands-on parents so one of us is often around to help if situations get challenging. We would also be looking for you to provide full-day support on Public Holidays (on the ones we don’t get leave) and also throughout the school holidays which will be roughly around 45h per week. You must have a clean driver’s license, be a total non-smoker and from a pet free house because of family allergies. You will ideally have carer/childcare experience with other special needs adults/children. We live in Dalgety Bay. If you think you are the special person we are looking for to help care for our son please contact me.
