About the business
I've been a childcare provider for 30+ years and have worked with hundreds of preschool and school-aged children.
I have taught at public and private preschools, public elementary schools, and family daycare centers including Santa Clara Unified schools, Bowers, Washington Open, Wilson, Briarwood, Hughes, and Montague.
I raised six children of my own and was an active parent participant at their schools and extracurricular activities.
I have 40+ child development units, 130+ hours of professional development training, and an associate teacher's permit.
I am certified in pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid. I have Live Scan fingerprinting, background check, and I'm a mandated reporter. I have extensive experience with English language learners. I am fully Vaccinated, including Covid 19.
My licensed family daycare facility (license #434411459) provides a full classroom environment for a variety of learning activities including math, science, cooking, music, sensory development, small and large motor development, conflict resolution, and outdoor play.
Our large classroom includes dedicated areas for reading, art projects, playhouse and dress-up, building, puzzles, science, and cooking, as well as outdoor spaces for biking, water play, climbing, and sports activities. We go on walking field trips to nearby parks and libraries.
I prepare a daily educational curriculum with activities centered around a theme. For example, Letter Jj Day, Counting & Sorting Day, Patterns Day, Cooking Day, Sewing Day, Color Green Day, Feelings Day, Nature Walk Day, Book Day, Measuring Day, Bubbles Day, Exercise Day, Opposites Day, Rhyming Day, Gardening Day, etc.
I provide breakfast, drinks, snacks, teeth brushing, and laundry services. Children bring their own lunches. Each child is provided for individually based on his or her dietary needs.
A report is sent home each day outlining foods eaten, nap times, and the activities that each child participated in.
I am open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. I accept full-time, part-time, and drop-in students ages 1 year and up. Children do not need to be potty trained.
The children in my program are a very large part of each others lives, as well as mine. It is very much like a family.

Sending our firstborn off to preschool was nerve wracking for us as parents at first. But after finding Miss Karen's preschool and our daughter settling in there, we have total confidence that we made the right choice. I have nothing but great things to say about Miss Karen and her classroom, and my daughter loves it so much. She is always asking to stay longer, and has made good friends there. I would highly recommend this school to anyone!

Miss Karen is amazing. Trust is the first thing when I think about her; and that's why I sent my daughter to her school for 3 years until she went to Kindergarden. We were welcomed and treated very well. My daughter loved going to school, and always talked about Miss Karen and her friends. We love her. I highly recommend Miss Karen preschool!

Miss Karen is wonderful person I have ever met. My 3 year old son started going to Karen's preschool and he loves it. He enjoys being with other kids around to learn different things each day. Miss Karen tells me all the great things what my son did learn. Highly Recommend Miss Karen's preschool.

Caring, flexible, communicative, no-drama: those are just some of the words that come to my mind when I think of Karen. Our then 4 year old attended her small preschool and I couldn't be more thankful I found Karen. Our child would come back home bubbling to tell us all the things she did at Miss Karen's. We got logs of what she ate, hoe long she napped and the list of activities she did. This little preschool is everything I could ask for!

As a preschool teacher myself for 12 years, I didn't know it would be so hard for me to leave my two year old at a daycare. Miss Karen welcomed my daughter with warm welcome arms and wanted to know all about her. Miss Karen makes sure to communicate with me about my daughter's day verbally and with daily notes. My daughter is always excited to go to school and play with her friends and Miss Karen. Being the parent in the parent-teacher relationship has been a great experience with Miss Karen. As a teacher and a parent, I whole-heartedly recommend Miss Karen's Learn & Care Preschool.

My 2 year old loves Miss Karen. She is always flexible with our schedule and communicates very well. We receive a daily snapshot of the activities, food eaten and toys played with. Highly recommend Miss Karen and her family approach!

Our son had a fantastic time at Miss Karen's preschool. Karen was really caring and communication was easy although he did not speak English at all. It was great to get some news and some pictures once in a while from the group to see how our son is doing. I really liked the mix of the group with regard to nationality and age. I highly recommend her and we are thinking about sending him again to her preschool during summer break.

We decided to choose Karen's for our 2 year olds daycare after visiting 5 family daycares. We chose her because of the safe and nurturing feel of her and her home, the wide range of toys and art supplies she has for the children, her experience and the obvious enjoyment she gets out of caring for young children. We have been with her four months now and have watched our son blossom. He learns so much and does so many things there every day. She always has imaginative art projects and learning activities for them, as well as giving them plenty of time to free play and learn how to play together and share.
We especially appreciated her patience in getting our son to feel comfortable there at the beginning. For almost two weeks he'd cry and scream to go home, off and on all day. She never called us and asked us to pick him up, instead assured us that he would slowly come to enjoy his "school". She seems to have a sixth sense with young children after so many years of working with them because she was completely right. Now he can't wait to have breakfast and go play when we get there...I have to ask for a hug goodbye or he's off and running!
I also like how Karen has backup subs in cases where she can't be there for a few hours. She also is very professional in her handling of paperwork and all that jazz...it's like dealing with a daycare center but with the warmth of sending your child to be cared by a family member.
Can't recommend her enough!

Over Labor Day weekend, my husband and I found ourselves without daycare for the upcoming Tuesday for our two and a half year old son. I went on care.com and used the back-up care email service and Karen responded. I'm so glad she did! Amidst many emails from seemingly qualified people stating that they could watch our son for the day, Karen's response stood out. She offered a spot at her home daycare for the day and she was extremely responsive and understanding when we began to exchange emails, even offering early drop off and late pick up to accommodate our schedules.
Nervous about how the day would go, I brought my son to Karen's and she greeted us so warmly that my son was soon comfortable and exploring all the toys in her preschool room. When I left him, I knew that he was in good hands. All day, Karen texted me photos of how his day was going-playing, doing art, exploring. When my husband picked him up, he was in a great mood and even brought a collage and a painting home.
I would recommend Miss Karen to anyone with a preschool aged child. While we only had one day with her, we could tell that she's a dedicated, fun, and loving care giver. If we lived closer to her, our son would certainly be enrolled at Miss Karen's.
