From Breedlove to HomePay: Our 25 Year History

Before there was HomePay - or even Breedlove & Associates, as we were known before - a solution for household employment didnt exist. In 1992, Bill & Stephanie Breedlove were like many busy young couples pursuing demanding careers while juggling raising two babies. It was a ton of work and they needed help, so the Breedloves decided to hire a nanny to help care for their boys.

Stephanie & Bill were adamant about paying their nanny the right way by following the law so she would receive the benefits and protections other working Americans enjoy. But like many families hiring a household employee for the first time, trying to understand the nanny tax process was intimidating and overwhelming.

There were so many forms, deadlines, instructions and legal nuances to master and no firm that could handle all the paperwork, payroll management, tax filing and employment law guidance for them. So instead, they decided to build it and Breedlove & Associates was born.

Over the next 20 years, Bill & Stephanie led Breedlove & Associates to serve tens of thousands of families in all 50 states, process billions of dollars in household payroll and become the go-to experts in this highly-specialized, exceedingly-nuanced segment of tax and labor law. Hundreds of CPAs, financial managers, trust managers and household staffing agencies began confidently referring clients for answers, advice and service.

In 2012, Bill & Stephanie made another milestone decision to become part of Care.com, the world's largest online destination for care. It was a no-brainer for us as we saw millions of people across the country looking for care via Care.com with no outlet for payroll, tax or HR help once they hired.

Breedlove & Associates became known as HomePay and we take great pride in saying that the only thing that changed was our name. The same outstanding team Bill & Stephanie built in Austin, TX continues to deliver the same level of personalized client service, accountability and accuracy we've had since the first day the business began more than two decades ago.

Stephanie & Bill Breedlove retired in 2014, but we remind ourselves every day of their mission to serve busy families and we're proud to play a role in making life a little easier for every new family that asks for our help.
