I began my voluntary work at a Charity in summer 2012. It is a respite centre for disabled children and their families, I have gained valuable skills and a great insight in caring for young children. I have realised that I have a passion to be a part of creating a safe and stable environment for children in their formative years, as I now appreciate the importance this plays in developing their life skills for their future. I now have a part time job at the same charity as a support worker. My role includes being assigned a one to one child to work with; I take the children out on activities such as Hydrotherapy swimming, multi-sensory play and horse riding. I have completed training courses in Paediatric First Aid, Dyspraxia Awareness, Supporting Children Through Play and British Sign Language. I have gained skills such as how to adapt my approach towards children with various needs, giving feedback to parents and my ability with to deal difficult situations.
