I am a guardian for a special needs adult who was planning to enroll at Mt. Hood Adult Day Center after their post-high program had completed. We spent months to assure a smooth transition. The day before our person was supposed to start, Mt. Hood sent us a contract to personally sign even though their financial relationship was with the brokerage. There were financial parts of the contract that caused us concern and so we requested a meeting to discuss them. However, because we so much as asked a question about the contract, Mt. Hood called our brokerage and "exited" our person without so much as a discussion claiming she wasn't a good fit. They refused all follow up calls and meetings. Mt. Hood was aware that not being in a program would put our person at risk, so in essence, they punished a vulnerable special needs adult because the guardian questioned the contract. Their behavior was legal but wildly unethical and, as a professional, I was shocked. If you need their services, the expectation is that you sign without question. Having contracts reviewed by counsel is always reasonable and if you find you need the services of this organization, I highly recommend it. There are other qualified providers in the area where this was not even close to an issue.
