Special Needs Care in City of Stoke-on-Trent

| I have worked in care since 2011, I started as a career in a learning disability residential care home, and worked my way up to a senior support worker. I then moved to work in a children's residential care home which was also for children with special needs. I now currently work as an ABA tutor for a 18 year old boy. I have a wide range of experience with autism, mental health, learning disabilities, challenging behaviour. I have a interest in helping people that require that little extra help than others, to help them achieve more in life as they want.

| My names Kerby, I've worked in care for the past four years and done ten years in Retail management, I didn't believe I would ever find something I enjoyed more the Retail until I went into care. I work for a care agencies at the moment but the hours are all over the place and I'm never with the same person/people. For me I believe care is at its best when both sides have gotten to know each other, both sides are much more comfortable but sadly most care agencies don't do this. When talking to people I care for they all say the same thing (a new face again) which is uncomfortable for both sides. That's why I am now looking to remove myself from care agencies and become a private care worker. I work part time with a family at the moment but I'm looking to make up some hours. | I am a 24 year old care and support worker with adult learning disabilities. Due to the shift hours of my work, I am able to pick up some flexible part time hours to help out in a suitable household. I have worked in support work for over 1 year, and prior to this, was a university student studying social work. I'm friendly and approachable and so passionate about my current job. I love being a care and support worker and would love the chance of picking up the odd few hours part time to give respite care or activities out. At my current work, I show initiative with creating and planning activities and can be useful for support with day to day tasks like shopping.

| I communicate well with children and spend a lot of time interacting with children within my work place and home, also visitors and relatives coming to see their family/patients.I am also very organized and work well doing a number of different task at once. I am currently employed at the University Hospitals of North Midlands working as a specialised nurse on the Critical Care Unit. I care for patients with many co-morbidities and disabilities, and have the extensive knowledge to act appropriately in any medical emergencies. I am dedicated to my role as a nurse and feel that i want to help others who need that extra support or assistance in holistic care needs. I also have a 5 years of experience working as a support worker looking after service users with mental health and learning disabilities. Providing social care, attending to physical and personal needs, documentation and record keeping.

| At the moment i volunteer with the youth services with young people with both learning difficulties and disabilities and i have had experience working with young people with mental health and i have volunteered with caudwell children.

I will be studying Psychology and Child Development at university. Hopefully this will turn into a career working with SEN. I have previous experience working, as an Au Pair, for a young girl that had a rare genetic condition. This affected her development in fine motor skills and communications.
