Special Needs Care in Carlisle

| Being a home health aide worker is about more than just the patient’s health. I’ll be asked to meet many of your client's non-medical needs as well. Some of these tasks may include grocery shopping and household chores, such as laundry and cleaning. I may be asked to monitor a patient’s vitals or to provide companionship and conversation.

| I have been studying at Carlisle college for the last three years studying health and social care level 2 and 3 I have recently got a part time job in health care working with children with different abilities and needs. I’ve always wanted to work in the care sector and this may be a way forward for me.

I am currently employed as a disability champion at the University of Sheffield. This involves me being an advocate for students with additional needs. This has given me an insight into and appreciation of the struggles of students with additional needs. During the summer breaks I assisted in a local play scheme supporting children with severe and complex needs such as autism, Down syndrome and global developmental delay. Many of the children experienced additional complications such as ADHD and epilepsy. During the last few years I have also volunteered in ‘Just Kidz’, an organisation based in an area of low socioeconomic status for children with severe learning difficulties. I have experienced working with people with difficulties and disabilities at both ends of the age spectrum. I volunteered at a home for elderly people who suffer from dementia.
