Hello, I am an ex-special needs teacher with a PGCE in special educational needs, including PMLD. I worked for ten years in a specialist school for pupils with autism and have fostered children with EBD. I particularly enjoy working with the younger age groups as I am also a registered child care provider and really feel strongly that every child can achieve their potential given the support, security and care needed from their formative years onwards. Caring for children with special educational and additional needs, especially those with more profound difficulties, is particularly rewarding as it is recognised and understood how much each child has to overcome in order to achieve small yet significant milestones. The reward is in knowing that you helped a child to achieve by offering them an opportunity to participate in activities which are enjoyable, educational, worthwhile and meaningful (for that child).
