Au Pair/Live-in Babysitter position in Cooktown, far north Qld. Start asap. We are looking for a friendly, caring, responsible big sister for my 10 year old daughter. We are situated in Cooktown, 4 hours north of Cairns. I am a single mum, who does shift work. There is just the two of us and we want someone who is keen to be part of a family. This is not just a job!! It will often just be you and M so you need to like children and be very aware of what is and is not appropriate for a 10 year old girl. M is very energetic and smart and we need someone who will engage with her, talk with her, do things with her. As I do shift work I will need you to be able to cook meals, do some cleaning/housework, help with homework, do school pick up and drop off and assist with the general running of the house. Some of your shifts will be nights from approx. 5:30pm til morning. You will have two out of four weekends off, have access to a car for local driving only and be able to obtain a second job that works around my shifts. You must be flexible as my shifts sometimes change at short notice. Be responsible and show initiative, if something needs to be done, just do it without being asked. Willing to learn and accommodate specific requests. You will have your own room, must be a non smoker and preferably a drivers licence. I would prefer someone who has at least some babysitting experience and knows the role of an au pair /live-in babysitter. You don’t have to know how to cook but at least be willing to learn. The hours will range week to week depending on my shifts but it is based on a fortnightly roster so approx. 40 hours every two weeks. Sometimes more and sometimes less. If you are from Australia, I would prefer that you did the In Home Care Scheme to allow you to be appropriately compensated. You will need to have: • A Blue Care • Cert III or studying Cert III in Childcare • Insurance (which you will be compensated for) • First Aid Certificate including Anaphylaxis and Asthma training • ABN. In Home Care is able to assist with these requirements and you don’t have to have it in advance except the Blue Card and First Aid.
