I have worked with special needs children at residential and day camps over the past three summers as an inclusion counsellor. My job responsibilities included: Responsible for the health and well being of each camper in my care. Created modified daily schedules according to the camper’s specific needs.
Educated on how to effectively use PECS (picture exchange communication system, and ASL for campers who are non- verbal or who have autism). Organize and supervise group activities. Assisted the special needs camper with daily hygiene, bed time routines, swimming, bug spray, daily nutrition, sunscreen and medications. Communicate accurately and effectively with parents to ensure campers well being during session and share accomplishments with parents after the session. Facilitate camper participation in camp-wide activities and program areas.
Maintain confidentiality regarding personal information of all campers.
Working with special needs children is such a rewarding experience and I desire to provide each child in my care with a positive and educational experience.
