I have a senior rescue dog with fear issues and anxiety. Over time, her anxiety worsened, and the vet and I even began to speculate that she was developing Alzheimer's. All evening long my dog panted and pawed at me, demanded repeatedly to go outside, paced, and stared into corners. I resorted to frequent doses of anti-anxiety meds.
Wrong! Margrethe quickly identified the problem by working with me in my home. She helped me understand that I had inadvertently trained my dog to act anxious. I learned that my dog not only doesn't have Alzheimer's, she is capable of learning new behaviors. Instead of medication, I use the training techniques Margrethe taught me to create and reward calm behavior. I now have my quiet evenings back - and I am not giving my dog unnecessary medication.
