About the business
Good Samaritan Home Health Care's satisfaction lies in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently, pursue meaningful goals and have the same abundant opportunities and choices as all people. Our caregivers work to nurture the individual growth of each individual, assisting them in independent living skills such as personal care, shopping, cooking, transportation and accessing community resources. Individuals also have the opportunity to participate in activities; including work, school, vocational training, day support, volunteer projects, and recreation-but are not required to do so.
Here's an account by one of our caregivers of what a typical day on the job would look like working with individuals with developmental disabilities......
My day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. I work 12-hour shifts. I currently support two brothers; one is 25 and the other is 30. My responsibilities include: ensuring their home is nice and tidy, we work on house chores together, checking all the medications, making a shopping list together and checking the calendar for upcoming appointments. We have a lot of appointments, especially doctor's appointments. I also talk to each individual to see what it is they want to do for the day. If they can't make up their minds, I offer them choices. The guys usually want to go on trails and do picnics, so we pretty much go on trails and have picnics nearly every day.
