About

Camp Katy will run July 13-24 from 8:15 am to 1:30 pm, with a full day on Fridays and will include breakfast and lunch for all campers. Each morning students will eat breakfast together and participate in a Social-Emotional Ethical Learning activity developed by Emory University (SEE Learning). The activities are intended to bring about a balance to the mind and body and cultivate compassion for ourselves and others responding to interpersonal intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence.

Students will participate daily in an American Reading Company literacy lab which enables students to reach higher levels of cognition needed to become real-life problem solvers. Students will participate in a morning meeting, interactive read-aloud, self-selection of books, independent reading, read-to-me, guided reading with accountable talk, and writing.

Students will also participate daily in yoga and mindfulness activities responding to bodily-kinesthetic and musical intelligence--allowing students to switch focus, absorb what they learned, and prepare their brain to learn more.

Camp Katy students will also partake in five daily blocks of STEAM. STEAM education is designed to promote critical thinking and innovation while integrating all subjects thereby to all types of intelligence and reaching across all disciplines.

Five days of Camp Katy will include a daily session on the Performing Arts. Students will discover their “own voice” and stretch their creativity through multicultural music, oral reading, and movement/dance which also improve language and literacy skills.
