I have hands-on experience working with individuals who are deafblind and who have differing abilities. I am certified in First Aid and CPR. I have taken courses where I have learned about sighted guide, activity and program planning, human growth and development, circumstances regarding individuals who are medically fragile, and anatomy. I have had a placement was at Bloorview School Authority where I was working with individuals who are lower functioning that although are not deafblind greatly benefit from some of the strategies taught within the program. Such as the use of hand under hand, basic ASL, calendar systems, being able to adapt an activity to meet the personal needs of the individual etc. I’ve worked with a variety of individuals from the ages of birth-65+.
I strongly believe that every place has something to offer and am actively seeking an opportunity where I can apply the knowledge I have gained but also learn additional skills and information.

Formal experience working with persons with special needs includes working with people of various ages and abilities. This has included being a respite worker for an adult with autism, working with children and adults with speech and cognitive impairments in camp settings (sometimes around horses), and senior residences at Tall Pines Long-Term scare Centre in and out of art and horticultural therapy sessions.
Limited availability starting September, but especially enjoys working with and being around persons with autism spectrum disorders. With the understanding that each individual has unique needs and experiences, also highly sensitive to the experiences of people living with multiple diagnosis for significant mental, physical, and emotional challenges.

In addition I am also attending school to become an Occupational therapist and Physiotherapist assistant to enhance my skills to work with children within this population. I am passionate about occupational therapy and well versed in the methods used to provide therapy for children. In addition I also tutor children from a variety of levels such as IEPs.
