About

This engaging Math Workshop Session is designed for 5th and 6th graders to develop their skills in collecting, organizing, representing, and interpreting data, as well as mastering various measurement concepts. Through hands-on activities and real-world applications, we’ll discover how measurement and data help us make sense of the world around us.

What We’ll Explore:

Data Analysis Detectives: Once we have our graphs, it’s time to analyze! We’ll learn to interpret data presented in graphs, calculate measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), and understand the concept of range. We’ll use our analytical skills to draw conclusions and make predictions based on the data.

Measurement Mania: We’ll explore different units of measurement (customary and metric) for length, weight, volume, and time. Through practical activities, we’ll learn to convert between units, estimate measurements, and develop a strong sense of how different units relate to each other.

Data Collection Expedition: Every great data exploration starts with collection! We’ll learn various methods for collecting data, such as surveys, experiments, and observations. We’ll design our own data collection tools and practice gathering accurate and relevant information.

Graphing Gurus: We’ll transform our collected data into visual representations! We’ll create various types of graphs, including bar graphs, line graphs, pie charts, and histograms, and learn to choose the most appropriate graph for different types of data.
