About

World House is a community supported education center committed to enriching the lives of children in a nurturing, peaceful, creative and innovative environment. Our holistic approach to education is based on four cornerstones that foster the developmentof the whole child: intellectual cultivation; experiential learning; civic engagement; and place-based nature immersion. We offer academic classes to students K-8th grade in the morning. Our Creative Foundations class covers traditional academic content areas, but often in non-traditional ways. English language arts, math, foreign language, social studies, and science, are taught through a nature-based, arts-infused lens. We are heavily influenced by the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy (children learn by experiencing their environment). Our Busy Hands afternoon program covers what we think of as inner and outer work. Through a variety of learning modes and content areas, we offer children a chance to keep head, heart, and hands busy. Specialists in the greater community are often brought in to share their unique talents. Sample areas of guided study include: painting, social skills, carving, cooperative games, music, yoga, martial arts, sewing, cooking, conflict resolution, weaving, pottery, and wood working. Busy Hands subjects are generally taught in 8-week blocks. Explorers in O.W.L. (Old Ways Learning), is for children ages 5-9 and Eco-Wise, ages 10-14 discover their World House community a little closer to home. We like how our children are developing a sense of place and respect for the land by getting to know the trails, woods, and stream areas just steps away from our World House building.Read more
