I have been taking my dog for 2 years to Pawin Around, but will not be back again, because the owner was extremely rude to me on the phone.

The owner also told me that there were many dogs getting sick at Pawin Around, despite the measures he had taken to prevent this. They accepted my dog knowing about this dog flu epidemic, and when he got sick under their care, the owner said I should have done better research and known not to bring him in.

I dropped my dog off for an overnight stay, he stayed a total of 4 days and 3 nights with Pawin' Around.

I noticed a sign on the door when I dropped him off saying "we are aware of the dog flu epidemic and are monitoring the problem closely and to please contact us if your dog starts to exhibit symptoms" but I did not think anything of it.

Unfortunately when we picked him up, our dog would not stop coughing.

When I asked why he was coughing, and they said they didn't know - even though the owner informed me later on the phone that he was interviewed by a newspaper article about the "epidemic" and knew about the flu epidemic before I dropped my dog off. He said all his staff had been given cleanup protocol and they were not accepting dogs that exhibited symptoms - yet when my dog was exhibiting symptoms in their care, they told me they didn't know what was going on, or why he wouldn't stop coughing.

I found there was a newspaper article published on Jan 11 in The Mercury News ( two days before I dropped my dog off). The article said there was a flu "epidemic" and that the dog day cares in silicon valley had been closing down because of it.

So, I took our dog to our vet. The vet wouldn't let myself or my dog in the building because this strain can spread just by us being in the building. They examined him in the parking lot and confirmed he had the flu strain in question. The total bill was $337.

When I finally got to speak to the owner, I asked for a refund for my past stays, up to the amount of $337 - because this was the bill from my Vet for seeing my dog.

Illya (the owner) told me he did not have to give me that because dogs get sick at daycare all the time. Then, he told me that he had just today (1/21/18) shut down Pawin Around and he had taken home all the dogs at Pawin Around, to his house. He told me he did this because there were sick dogs at Pawin around. He said that no dogs were sick when I brought mine, and told me: "How do you know it wasn't your dog that got everyone sick?"

I said this was not a normal case, there was a well known epidemic going through the area and other day cares had closed down, and there was a sign in your shop saying that you knew about it but were still accepting dogs when other day cares had closed.

He then told me that no, I was wrong, the sign posted said they would not accept dogs if they showed any symptoms, but then I told him word for word the sign that I actually saw posted, saying to simply contact them if the dog showed symptoms, and he changed the subject.

I thought it was odd to see Illya yelling at the dogs with a harsh tone when I took mine in for an evaluation two years ago, but now it makes sense.

Our phone call boiled down to 31 minutes of trying to make my case but having Illya interrupt me to yell - I told him he was acting very unprofessional by yelling at me and he told me I was "acting unprofessional as a customer for requesting a refund".

In the end he told me he wouldn't give me any sort of refund at all and that he was done with this conversation, then he hung up.

This flu is so contagious, our dog spent 30 minutes with our friends dog, and now our friends 12 year old dog is sick!!! We are having to deal with helping her out too now, and feel horrible for getting her older dog sick. It could have been avoided, but Pawing around did not want to admit to us they had gotten our dog sick.

So, all in all, I was a customer for two years and spent thousands of dollars here on overnight stays, bathing and daycare. We would stay multiple times a year and spend $200-$400 each time. But when it came to helping us pay for part of our vet bill, Illya would not have it. After I asked him for a refund, he became angry and began interrupting me so incessantly, I could not get out more than a few words at a time. I even asked him to stop yelling at me and interrupting me, but it didn't help.
