Dorothy Carey is the founder of Jackson Wesley. She is passionate about assisting in the learning development process of life long students. Learning unlocks the potential to grow. She is committed to increasing her understanding of cultural diversity, individual learning styles, and social and career development, and additionally, she holds an Educational Leadership Certification and an ESOL Endorsement She brings more than 25 years of teaching-tutoring experience to her work as an online distance learning tutor. In her six years as administrator/K-5 teacher at JW Academy, she implemented after-school reading and learning programs, worked with school leaders in devising plans to increase student's reading level, coordinated standardized testing, and assisted with facilitating Saturday School; a half- day reading program held on Saturdays. She has extensive experience in providing tutoring service to students in reading, reading comprehension and phonics. She uses teaching techniques, as well as instructional methods, that demonstrate effectiveness in increasing academic achievement. Some of the techniques include: Scaffolding modeling, focused teaching, guided practice, and independent practice. These techniques can encourage and enhance any student learning style. She has extensive experience in online ESL tutoring, teaching conversational English to adult learners, as well as volunteered in an Adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) community learning center program. She has also been a substitute teacher, teaching ESOL and other subjects to children on the elementary and secondary levels.
