Amy's Tutoring & Homework Help

About

Hello, my name is Amy Walker. I have been an educator for 25 years. I worked in the Central Falls School District for 21 years as an educator. I also substituted in Central Falls for several years prior before retaining a position as a tenured teacher. Before that, I was a teacher for St. Joseph's School in West Warwick along with being a camp counselor during highschool and college, as well as being a nanny for several children in Lincoln. Needless to say, children have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have always had a passion for Early Childhood Education. I love the excitement when teaching children how to read and watching them become successful through guided reading. Early Childhood children also need to grow through social studies, mathematics and science curricula. BUT the most important aspect to ECE is social skills. Children need a strong foundation socially before academics can be successful. During this stressful time with school up in the air, social skills are going to be very tough to teach using a large group of friends. However, with guidance and a strong belief, I have faith that given the chance in other settings besides school, children can and will be able to get what they need. As an educator in your home, social skills will be incorporated into the tutoring session along with academic supports and guidance. I will work to help your child succeed with the lessons sent from their classroom teacher, as well as incorporating activities to support those lessons and help your child in all areas academically and socially. With all that said about teaching, here is a little bit about me as a "person" outside of the classroom. I enjoy drawing, painting and creating different art pieces for my home. Repurposing furniture is a passion of mine, if only I had more space to do it in. I am hoping to open my own ETSY shop with prints, cards and other items as soon as I have the right amount of items to show. I love listening to the ocean and sitting in the sun during EVERY season! I secretly sing and dance while cleaning and while driving in my car... 80's is the best!! I live in Warwick with my partner Jason. We have 2 dogs, Libby and Maya, and a cat named Mr. Binx who is insanely crazy but loveable. My hope is to help where I am needed, to allow all children to succeed at their own pace, and to show how much fun learning can be at home. Happy Learning, Ms. AmyRead more
